Born in Transylvania, Romania and based in London for many years, the romanian-british artist Mitch Belei (aka Arterapsy) is a classically trained violist, music producer and DJ whose creative universe bridges two worlds — the acoustic and the electronic, the seen and the unseen.
As a violist, Mitch has performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including the Musikverein Vienna, Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Concert Hall, and Cadogan Hall. His orchestral collaborations include the London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Ulster Orchestra, Porto Symphony Orchestra, Graz Symphony Orchestra, Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck and many others.
Throughout his career, he has worked under the baton of distinguished conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Rafael Payare, Andres Orozco-Estrada, Stefan Vladar and Leif Segerstam and performed alongside soloists like Mstislav Rostropovich, Maxim Vengerov, Nigel Kennedy, Julian Rachlin, Sharon Kam, and Nicola Benedetti. A passionate chamber musician, Mitch has toured extensively across Europe and Asia, taking part in international music festivals in France, Austria, Romania, the UK, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Hungary, China, and Hong Kong. As a member of the Modulus Quartet (2015–2022), he toured the UK and Transylvania, appearing on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune and other international broadcasts.
His academic path led him from the “S. Toduță Music College” and “Gheorghe Dima Music Academy” in Cluj, Romania, to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, where he studied under Prof. Matthias Maurer — former principal viola of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. He also holds a degree in music production from the London School of Sound.
Belei’s artistic voice extends far beyond the concert hall. He contributed to numerous film soundtracks, including Wonder Woman, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Crown, Judy, Dumbo, The Death of Stalin, Enola Holmes 2 and The Equalizer 3. He has also performed and recorded with renowned artists across genres such as Melody Gardot, Stewart Copeland, Public Service Broadcasting, Jonny Greenwood and Royce Wood Junior.
Yet behind the classical stage lights, another calling was quietly growing — a fascination with vibration, rhythm and the unseen language of frequencies. This passion found its full expression in Arterapsy, Mitch’s electronic music and DJ persona. Through progressive house, he transforms emotion into movement, creating hypnotic journeys where sound becomes energy and dance becomes awakening. His DJ sets are an exploration of emotional depth and inner transformation — a dialogue between sound and soul.
“My primary goal,” he says, “is to understand and explore an emotion — whether through a classical performance or electronic music. I love dancing and I’m fascinated by the energy that arises when people share the same frequency. Each human being is unique and carries a spark that can lift the collective vibration. Reinvent yourself until you find your true self. Then express it — that’s how the world becomes richer and more awake.”
Beyond music, Mitch is a multidimensional creator — a Reiki practitioner, photographer and storyteller drawn to the unseen patterns that connect sound, light and consciousness. His life reflects a deep spiritual awareness that guides his art. “Each of us is a perfect being,” he says. “Inside, there’s a diamond waiting to be polished until it shines fully. My music — classical or electronic — is part of that polishing.”
Today, Mitch Belei — Arterapsy — continues to explore the bridge between tradition and innovation, the sacred and the modern, merging the refinement of a classical musician with the visionary freedom of an electronic artist. His journey is one of transformation — from orchestra halls to underground clubs, from form to flow, from sound to spirit.
